Benefits of Power Raking

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

What is power raking ?

Power raking is the process of removing excess thatch from your lawn. Thatch can be very harmful to your lawn if left to accumulate. Thatch accumulates over the course of the year and it is best to get your lawn power raked twice a year.

What is thatch?

Thatch is a layer of dead roots, stems, leaves and rhizomes.

Why is thatch harmful to my lawn?

If thatch is left to accumulate it can prevent air , water, fertilizers and nutrients from getting to the roots of your lawn. Thatch can form a barrier between the soil and the grass roots.

When is power raking done ?

Power raking is normally done twice per year. It is done once in the spring and once in the fall. It is best to combine an aerating and seeding with a power raking. Seeding is always done after a power rake to fill in any bare spots and ensure you get that lush green lawn you desire.
