Using organics on your lawn

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

Keep your lawn healthy and well fed with organic fertilizers.

For a healthy lawn year round, it is highly recommended that you put down 1-2 applications of an organic fertilizer. Organic fertilizers feed the soil while synthetic fertilizers feed the plant. The combination of the two will lead to a very healthy green lush lawn. I highly recommend using a product such as Milorganite. Milorganite adds organic matter and essential plant nutrients to your lawn. That organic matter in turn feeds the existing microbes in your soil. When the microbes in your soil die they release healthy nutrients that are taken up by the roots of the lawn.

Unlike conventional fertilizers, which deliver a heavy, instant dose of synthetic nitrogen (as well as phosphorous and potassium) for your lawn to binge on, organics provide an easier-to-handle diet of nutrients that are released more slowly. Slow release nitrogen such as Milorganite is a great way to keep your grass nice, healthy and green. Nitrogen is an essential ingredient for your lawn. You can not keep constantly feeding the plant while ignoring the soil that the plant grows in. The synthetic and organic fertilizers should compliment each other for lush and thick healthy lawn. If your soil is deprived of nutrients then your lawn will suffer as well. You need a combination of slow release and fast release fertilizers.
