Why should I have mulch put down into my landscape beds ?
Mulch has 3 main benefits 1) it makes your landscape more attractive and black for example can really make the colors of your plants really pop 2) It retains moisture for the plants in your landscape 3) When mulch is put down thick enough it will suppress weeds. It is recommended that 3 inches of mulch be put down on your landscape beds so you can reap its benefits. However keep in mind that mulch will break through out the season , from my experience sometime around in August - September you will see weeds start to pop up again in your landscape beds. Their are two ways to combat this add more mulch again or add a pre emergent like preen. I always recommend to use a product like preen for your landscape beds.

1) Red
2) Black
3)Brown
What is mulch made from how does it get its color?
Mulch is made from wood chips and it is dyed to get its color. Red and black mulch are dyed while brown mulch is natural.
